Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap?
Devastating news here in a beautiful corner of Sydney after Woollahra Council meeting last monday night. Please find time to read the story from today’s Wentworth Courier (you can also view the photos from saturday’s last ditch efforts to save the 80 year old fig trees).
Yarranabbe Park fig trees to get the chop
Name Them and Shame Them
And you may be asking yourself what kind of people would vote to destroy beautiful big Port Jackson Fig trees? Name them and shame them. They look like ordinary people and have names like people you would know. Perhaps their true motives will remain a mystery as surely, SURELY! no one in their right mind would support such madness. Well . . . they must have had their reasons. And just in case you are wondering . . .these are the people. If you happen to know them do let them know how you feel about their decision making on behalf of the community they currently represent. Name them and shame them.

Councils Australia-wide astound me with their stupidity and heartlessness time and again. The environment and the community’s quality of life (which are of course inextricably linked) always seem to either come last or not figure at all in council’s actions and decisions at all. To rub salt into the community’s, the environment’s and wildlife’s wounds, councils are often also the perfect example of hypocrits, saying how important the environment is in their, say, Action Plans, Annual Statements etc, then oh so obviously, developers, short-sightedness, penny-pinching (which so often leads to longer term greated expense and hardship) and money-grabbing determine their actions and approvals. We need to stop being so apathetic (which is what all levels of government want) and taking what they throw at us by protecting a hell of a lot more aggressively.
Sharon, well put. Hear hear! Perhaps we should view this episode as the flagrant abuse of power right under our noses that simply DEMANDS ACTION. If we looked closely at the miscreants in the council who have voted to destroy those beautiful healthy trees who will we find? Let’s make it our business to find out then. Who are these people? I am not interested in punishment per se, however it seems that naming and shaming is well and truly in order here. Let the unworthy not be promoted to office or allowed to stay in office. It’s a low level activity but sometimes, someone’s got to do it. Perhaps the time is now. Do not let the sun go down on your wrath!
Nothing there,Simon, which could be deemed defamatory.:)
