Sandy – Force of Nature

31 10 2012

Winged Figure by Abbott Handerson Thayer – USA 1849-1921

Hurricane Sandy is the force of nature we had to have. Unfortunately. All the suffering in this freakish storm is of course tragic. Yet we may be assured that there is, without a doubt, worse and more to come. This must be a deeply sobering reflection. As we watch the great city of New York being battered, flooded and besieged it may start to dawn on some of the climate change deniers and laggards that change is now inevitable. It is now dawning on increasing numbers of people that the price of doing nothing will be greater than the price of change. Recent opinion polls suggest that the issue of climate change and global warming was becoming a bit of a bore for many in the UK, Australia and the USA. Now there will be a shift in public opinion and therefor renewed political will for change.

In Chaos Theory AKA The Butterfly Effect the butterfly flapping its wings is said to be the initial (small) condition that will lead to a (much larger) change – the hurricane. Well now we can see the hurricane as the butterfly. One large storm is a relatively small event when taken in context with the enormity of changes that this will precipitate. There are too many words required to describe all the problems we now face. Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere is simply the tipping point of our accumulated transgressions against the great spirit. Mankind it seems is learning some harsh lessons on the way to achieving the consciousness and frequency of loving harmony with the cosmos. As people sense the escalating catastrophe(s) that selfishness, greed, corruption and apathy have brought to our door many will feel that the situation must change while others – perhaps out of fear, shame or grief  will feel that it is hopeless.

Here is the simplest fact of the matter. The catastrophic change state will lead to a re-balancing.  For those who need to nurture their souls at this time, and who are wondering how to begin to change, the solution is profoundly within each individual. There are four basic steps to change. 1) Recognize your own faults. 2) Acknowledge that they are yours. 3) forgive yourself and others. 4) Start to nurture and hold a vision of how you would prefer your life and the future of the world to be. Sounds simple, and it can be. It is the blessed journey of a lifetime. By all means . . .make change and transformation a creative celebration of who you are going to be in the new dawn of time; in the re-birth of yourself. The rainbow of promise that the wholeness holds eternally is for all of the travelers in the creation.  For no matter how far you may wander from home, the candle is always burning in the window of miracles and grace. Laugh if you want to. This is not a religion. It may be far from it. And there is no romance in this and all the romance that any of us can handle.

If you want some science with that you can duck on over to 350 or BUST to see what’s up with climate change and CO2. Here’s to Peace and Love and feeding ducks by hand.

Fossil Fuels – Which One of The 7 Deadly Sins Is It?

Environmental Disaster

Ongoing destruction of our environment

The seven deadly sins are also known as Capital Vices or Cardinal Sins. Which might leave you wondering which of the seven deadly sins does the ongoing destruction of our environment fit into? Here are the seven with definitions. Below is a short video from GetUp! about the ongoing threat to and destruction of the Great Barrier Reef. Let’s see if you can work it out.

1 Lust – excessive and insatiable desires

2) Gluttony – the over-indulgence or over-consumption of anything

3) Greed – also known as avarice or covetousness, is, like lust and gluttony, a sin of excess. However, greed (as seen by the church) is applied to a very excessive or rapacious desire and pursuit of wealth, status, and power.

4) Apathy – (AKA Acedia) is the neglect to take care of something that one should do.

5) Wrath – uncontrolled feelings of hatred and anger

6) Envy – an insatiable desire to deprive others

7) Vainglory – (Pride) narcissistic pride &  boastfulness

Occupy Wall Street – The Tsunami we had to Have?

15 10 2011

Repositioning The Greed

The tsunami we had to have?

The mainstream media have been quick to identify the Occupy Wall Street movement as being aimless, but few mainstream journalists are openly identifying this emergence of global action and protest as possibly the tsunami we had to have.

One could be excused for thinking that the Occupy movement is a long overdue expression of personal and collective frustration at corruption, greed, inequality, apathy and creeping fascism. But excused by who? Perhaps not the spokespersons and agents within mainstream media and the rabid right wing in the USA called the Tea party and in Australia . . Alan Jones (he gets his own special category). Why is it so? And while you consider the answer to this question Make sure you see Professor Cornell West (Princeton) in a short clip at the end of this post talking at Harvard Law School. Professor West was one of Obama’s special black advisers.

Many journalists are reporting on the swirling mass of humanity rising up in over a thousand cities worldwide. According to reports the mob are apparently leaderless and lacking in focus but . . . . they continue to surge forward and swirl around. Some of the poor dears of the mainstream media are having a hard time coming to terms with it all. It seems they fail to draw the obvious comparisons with seismic global events of late that resulted in devastating oceanic movements. It’s called a tsunami – literally Harbour Wave. As we have seen, if you don’t move yourself to higher ground when one of these events is bearing down, you may well drown in the irresistible and chaotic flood.

Is this The Tsunami we had to have now rapidly bearing down on the sleepy little coastal village of cosy capitalism? Extending the metaphor this is one way that glib, glib, glib turns into glub, glub, glub. Man proposes and the ocean disposes. Well . . . the great and graceful ocean will not be mocked though many have seen fit to ignore this ancient wisdom. Prediction: We will see various captains of industry and the spin doctor toadies of corporate PR scrambling to re-position their exclusive bretheren to higher ground. At the moment it is easy to imagine that this Tsunami will prove to be a catastrophic change event we sorely need right about now. If so you can count it as being blessedly merciful, because if it’s not this event that knocks down the rotten constructions dotting our low-lying countryside then the next shocks – and there will be a series of them – will be worse.  And so it will go untill the power-lock people decide to turn the key towards liberty, equality and fraternity. Where have I heard that before? it has a nice ring to it.
Perhaps as the everyday people realize ever more clearly that indeed we are the power-lock people – the 99% we will release our own shackles. Quantum-wise (spiritually speaking?) this must be the deeper truth. It has been said that when the people lead the leaders will follow. Some do insist on being dragged screaming it seems – so undignified! Nevertheless – Praise the Lord it sure looks like the tsunami we had to have is the idea whose time has come.

People Power – Adbusters Play Moby

Why Does my Heart Feel so Bad?

So . . .why does my heart feel so bad?  Could it be because We Are the 99% . . .? Or for the same reason that (some) psychopaths make great CEOs? A question for the Banksters and financial cowboys of a sick global system. A question which they are no doubt already scrambling for answers to. And do they have any answers? What we can expect is more denial, more shifting of blame. More running obstructions, More law suits to protect the corporatocracy. Let’s see. Meanwhile we have Occupy this that and the other.

This may well turn into an Occupy Monsanto and an Occupy Goldman Sachs and an Occupy British Petroleum as well. Just for starters of course. The power elite will never change, or at least if history tells us anything not in any kind of hurry. The intractable ones may need to be occupied. Well . . .hopefully it will be more reasonable than the French revolution. They lopped a lot of heads back then. Nowadays maybe they’re just lopping egos. Ouch! One gets the feeling we are about to find out.

And think about this hipsters . . .is the reason that we haven’t heard too much in the commercial news about the Occupy protests because it was originally promoted and is still being pushed by Adbusters? Not a lot of enthusiasm there for a movement that is closely linked to ADBUSTERS? They just don’t butter their bread on the right side now do they? The fact that they have caught the zeitgeist for what’s really up for people at the moment doesn’t matter, because hey, it’s anti commercial and gosh . . . God is a salesman isn’t she? Ummm let me just look that one up.

What we can also expect now is massive change. Correct. It’s what they call in System Theory a Meta-System Transition. Go ahead and look that one up. Meta-System Transition . . .Occupy. This is now the beginning of the end and one may easily conjecture . . .unstoppable. This is the game that we came here for. All your base are belong to us. Go ahead and Google that phrase if you have to – all those slacker gamers already know. You know?

In solidarity with the Occupy Wall Street movement. A sad but uplifting song that puts it rather beautifully. The lyrics in full: Why does my heart feel so bad? Why does my soul feel so bad? These open doors . . .Ahhh!

Adbusters – the poeple who brought you Occupy Wall Street – are offering this beautiful Moby video on their home page – enjoy Why Does My Heart Feel so Bad?

Milton Friedman and The Big Lie – Economic Rationalism

20 08 2011

Friedman and Ronald Regan - Chums

Milton Friedman and The Big Lie

The Big Lie – a term coined by Adolf Hitler in 1929. Hitler’s book Mein Kampf. describes The Big Lie as a lie so “colossal” that no one would believe that anyone “could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously”. Welcome to Economic Rationalism, Milton Friedman and Big Lie.

To be fair to Milton Friedman the man and not just my image of him, it is likely that he considered himself nothing less than Albert Schweitzer-like in his pursuit of the good of humanity. It is curious therefore that his theories have resulted in so much deep suffering and pain for the world’s poor. His judgement in pushing an agenda of deregulation and elimination of restrictions to the open market must now be re-evaluated. In light of two global financial collapses, firstly in 1987 and more recently in 2008 (as yet unresolved) the entire notion of open slather by what is laughably called “market forces” begs to be revisited with enhanced powers of comprehension. It’s time we understood it’s a Big Lie.

See Also Dr Quantum: Adam Smith – A New Love Story for the Future

Theories . . . as Goethe once observed are grey but the Tree of Life is evergreen. Friedman’s theory rested neatly and essentially on the notion that if we lift barriers to trade and remove constraints on companies being able to make a profit – otherwise known as deregulation – then hey presto! The magical and one must understand BENIGN forces that represent the market in it’s free flowing glory will make everything . . .better. Righto. And bollocks.

Milton Friedman had a sense of invincibility that was no doubt boosted by receiving the Nobel prize in 1976. And . . .his claim that the Great Depression of the 1930’s could have been avoided by monetary policy is about to be tested for real. Watch this space. Who is punting on avoiding a depression by the Quantitative Easing -Also Know As printing more money? Not as simple as a few simplistic theories is it Milt? Could this be part of his Big Lie?Perhaps he should have considered that before selling billions into economic servitude for the price of his little gold statue.

In any case the man who thought himself to be so right was clearly so wrong. About many things apparently. But hey he had a nice smile and knew lot’s of fancy economic words so by all means let’s keep following his theories into the black hole of economic infinity. D’ya thnk?   If you ever wondered what really happens when Quantitative Easing gets together with free flowing market forces just watch this short, humourous and instructive little video, it may even have caused Milton Friedman to stop and consider the truth about the Big Lie.

Wake Up and Smell the Fascism – Brady Bunch Style

16 07 2011

The Real Truth about the Brady Bunch

There is something that we who understand ourselves to be Citizens of The World – need to comprehend about the world today. It is a simple truth, and one that now carries with it the crystal clear ring of truth. We are living in a fascist society.

Now don’t get me wrong. Not all business people are crooked, and neither are all politicians. So how is it that our great industries and institutions are riddled with levels of corruption that make the Mafia look downright frumpy. I have a theory. My theory is that it has always been like this. More or less. And perhaps it IS as simple as this. Maybe since Moses played fullback for Jerusalem the world has just been ruled by feuding warlords and cartels of criminally insane barbarians. The successful ones called themselves the Royal Family and so things have gone since the beginning of time. These bastards are the crazies who will just do whatever it takes to make a buck, stay in power and get the kudos. Maybe.

But if we look closer there is something else going on as well. It seems things have actually been getting worse lately. How else can we explain Tony Abbott? A mad monk fighting with every breath in his budgie smugglers for the carpet bagging rights of the worst kind of excessive and insane brutalists. Abbott is an idealogue who sincerely believes in his own boring and boorish crusade. Will someone please sit the mad monk down and have a quiet and slow word . . .will someone please explain to this man that he is fighting on the side of the fascists.

The scariest thing about Abbott is that he appears to actually believe the utterly fantastic propaganda of the right. He is a sort of zealot boy scout who dropped out of seminary. He is the most dangerous of men – a true believer. The left is shamelessly close to his frightful political position with it’s own orgy of deregulation and mass privatisation. State labor governments have been fairly falling over themselves to sell off public utilities and place them in the hands of private enterprise. The mantra has been deregulate, privatise and outsource. And now look where we are. That’s another fine mess you’ve gotten us into.

And so now here we are . . . many decades on since we Australians began selling off the farm to the controlling overlords in the UK and the USA. It seems we are starting to get a little nervous when those getting in line to buy up what’s left of our national treasures – our food production, our ports and few remaining minerals – have yellow and brown skin. There’s no racial prejudice here surely! But it has suddenly come home to all but the most particularly dopey among us that selling off our assets – in this case to the Chinese and Indians  – might not be such a great idea. It didn’t seem so bad when we were giving it away for a song to the Poms and the Yanks though. Same difference folks. Maybe a slightly better brand of exploitation. Event that’s debatable.

The arguments that the Americans are strategic allies are really not so brilliant. We’ve been buying their crappy fast food and overpriced computer software to prove our loyalty. We’ve been marching off with them to fight dodgy wars. Why should they get our raw materials on the cheap as well? Doesn’t make sense. Oh yeah . . .we need foreign capital to invest in this country. What???!!!!!! We need foreign capital to invest in digging holes in the ground so they can cart off our priceless and irreplaceable mineral wealth? At least you can grow more food. Mate I’ll send a couple of blokes out into the bush with a four wheel drive and a pick and few shovels and tell them there’s beer buried deep in the ground. They’ll dig up whatever you like.

Mind you the Yanks definitely just take whatever they want from whomever they want – historically this is accurate. Why should Australia keep what is theirs? Perhaps it’s our Karma. We did after all steal the lot from the original Aboriginal inhabitants.
If this latest mob of crooks really were INVESTING and not just ripping us off then it might be different. So let’s get real. The USA has distinguished itself by becoming the greatest fascist nation on earth. A title now being hotly contended by China. Fascism is simply corporatism run amok. When corporations rule you and not governments elected of the people, for the people and by the people – what you get is what you’ve got now. This soulless corporatism has now wrapped its tentacles around every department of life spurred by a most peculiar belief that somehow it is free markets which can most capably direct the affairs of humanity. This has truly put Dracula in charge of the blood bank and it really is that frightening. If Dr Quantum is stretching the truth, how then my dear friends do you explain this? (And it is entirely symptomatic of the sick system known as the USofA) Watch video to check reality now. The facts.

The Challenge of Sustainability must be TEOTWAKI

25 06 2011

Happy Feet Can Dance

A few years ago now it was fashionable to predict the end of the world as we knew it as a bright, happy possible future. This rosy future was to be filled with joyous preferences not dire needs  This End of The World As We Know it or TEOTWAWKI was something to write home about. You see back in the ’70s some futurists predicted that we would only have to work three days a week to earn as much as we needed in order to live fulfilling, joyous abundant lives. Don’t ask me who those people were. Some academics might be able to tell you who they were but now their voices have mysteriously vanished because, let’s face it, the world isn’t like that. Not for most people anyway.

When you think about it . . . idealistic predictions of the good life and plenty for the masses were actually based on some sound logic. After all the world had been through the industrial revolution and all kinds of new technologies were emerging that have given us the ABILITY to live abundant lives of prosperity without having to work too hard. The electronic revolution was certainly in full swing by the mid-seventies. Automated processes and digital systems were starting to prove themselves. The dream COULD have been fulfilled, and it may yet be. One day. It just hasn’t happened yet. So what has happened?

The world we are now living in seems to be an extreme right wing version of George Orwell’s 1984, and pardon me if I have missed something in my rush to survive another week in the rat race. I say seems to be because if the world really was an extreme right wing version of Orwell’s bleak dystopia then we would have deep cause for desperate misery.  As things things stand our misery is only medium deep and only mildly desperate. If the world situation was a report card it might read: could do much better. But here’s the really bad news. What we now have is undoubtedly a form of de-facto fascism. It might not be totalitarian fascism, and yet fascism it most certainly is.

All you need to have going on for fascism to be running rampant is the merging of state and corporate power. The situation has indeed become frighteningly real. The response has been an inevitable slew of scary warnings such as the recent films The Corporation and Michael Moore’s Capitalism a Love Story. It’s not just about Socialism anymore. Forget about Karl Marx as a reference point for the current crop of indecent capitalist propositions. One gets the feeling that if the founding fathers of the good old USA of A were alive today they would be protesting loud and long about the erosion of truth, liberty, justice and freedoms by the forces of the ruling elites.

The corruption of governments and governance at nearly every level by the rude greed of what appears to be all branches of the business community should be cause for alarm for people of conscience and indeed it is. Part of the problem is that the glittering and glamorous prizes so eagerly sought by the materialistic bogans of the planet appear to have blinded many to the startling truth about our current fairly dire situation. We are busy riding an avalanche to catastrophe while changing the channel. We seem to shuffle  . . .from the celebrity chef to the love lives of Shane and Liz. The glimmer of hope is that every now and then something as meaningful as the cruel mistreatment of Australian livestock in Indonesia makes it to the front page. There is hope.

So what can we do while waiting for the inevitable catastrophes to come as they most surely and undoubtedly will. And mark my words, this is not alarmist, just as plain as the bleedin’ nose on yer face mate. Now . . . Dr Quantum is going to cross the floor with this one. I say Eat, Drink and be Merry for tomorrow we diet. Yes it’s true. If the Greek austerity measures looked bad just wait. Here’s my prediction for the future. One day we are all going to be asked to make sacrifices due to the stupidity and greed of the Monsantos, the BHP Billitons, The Goldman Sachs’ the British Petroleums and all the rest. So go ahead and feel bad for five minutes and then go back to watching Master Chef, because I am busy watching my latest favourite video – included below for your mindless entertainment.

In defence of good clean dirty fun Dr Quantum  offers the following startling revelations. Dancing is actually essentially FREE. You don’t have to fork out ridiculous amounts of money and get drunk on overpriced booze or take expensive drugs. When you move to the music your body automatically releases feel-good chemicals that are completely natural and dare I say it . . .good for you. Go you happy feet. Roll on disaster. If we’re all going to hell in a handbasket, we might as well turn up the music.

What do you REALLY think about FRACKING?

11 06 2011

Fracking - nothing personal, it's just business

Interaction with The Earth and the Elements

Do you know about Biodynamics? It’s one of the true Agricultural CULTURE systems and like PermaCULTURE it is a holistic and healing approach to interaction with the Earth and the elements.

Rodolf Steiner – the man who discovered Biodynamics developed quite a number of key holistic systems based on his clairvoyant (yes clairvoyant!) observations of nature. What in fact he did was go into the subtle realms of nature and observe first hand how the nature elementals interact with plants, animals, rocks and people. Steiner’s research from this first hand observation produced a series of indications that have been applied directly to Education (you may have heard of Steiner Schools) and an Agriculture system and approach – now known and respected as Biodynamics. He taught us a great deal about Interaction with The Earth and the Elements.

It was explained to Dr Quantum recently that the Steiner systems are designed with respect to the nature elementals – beings from what the Hindus call the Devic realms. Human beings often refer to these life forms as Angels. They are also known as Gnomes, pixies, faeries etc. Apparently all of our living systems depend on them for vitalization and integration with the universe and with Earth energies. Those who decide our policies don’t seem to know about Interaction with The Earth and the Elements. Biodynamics as an agriculture system seeks to restore the dynamic balance of forces and energies to the interaction with the Earth and to man’s realtionship with the Earth and the elements. Nature spirits are described by many cultures as angels, devas, demons, faeries, djinn, etc.

Consider then the business of Coal Seam Gas extraction appropriately known as Fracking.

AUSTRALIAN mining companies are using highly toxic chemicals to extract coal seam gas during the controversial process known as ”fracking”, documents obtained by the Herald show.

A government list of 36 chemicals used in coal seam gas extraction in Australia includes hydrochloric and acetic acid, and napthalene- an ingredient once used in napalm as well as more mundane items such as mothballs – and many other hydrocarbons.

The Gasland documentary by Josh Fox (click here) is a multi-award winning film that details the stupidity, lies and greed

SMH Online

Fracking, or hydraulic fracturing, involves injecting a mixture of water, sand and chemicals at high pressure underground in order to fracture rock formations and release coal seam gas.

The proposed use of fracking near watercourses, including a plan to deploy fracking next to Warragamba Dam, has fed concerns that drinking water could be contaminated if gas extraction goes ahead.

Well Fracking eh . . . of all the hair brained, knuckle headed, stupid . . .

What human beings haven’t learned about getting OUT OF BALANCE WITH NAUTRE is apparently still a large and multi-volumed subject. Oh well, here we go again. Into temptation. What are we going to learn about Interaction with The Earth and the Elements.
